The 2,1,3-benzoselenadiazole scaffold has generated strong interest for its ability to form reliable 2Se—2N square dimer interactions in the solid state (Figure 1), leading to conducting, optoelectronic, and solar cell properties. However, many gaps remain in our understanding of the extent of square interactions, and when squares are overpowered by other recognition forces. We take advantage of 2,1,3-benzoselenadiazole’s propensity for crystallization so that we may fully characterize its interactions using X-ray crystallography. This poster presents our progress in synthesizing a library of 2,1,3-benzoselenadiazole derivatives and their corresponding solid-state interactions.
