New copper(II) phenanthroline complexes were synthesized by the reaction of copper(II) phenanthroline, silver trifluoromethanesulfonate, and nitrogen-based ligands in 2:1 ligand to metal mole ratio. Six different ligands including theophylline, isonicotinamide, 4-pyridinecarbonitrile, acetamide, imidazole and 1,3-diaminopropane were used in our study. Characterization of the new complexes was carried out using IR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis and X-ray diffraction. Cytotoxicity studies on breast cancer cell lines will be presented.
