Introduction: Green Chemistry” that uses plant extracts for manufacturing gold nanoparticles yielding cost effective and highly biocompatible nanoparticles with no hazardous by-products. The aqueous fraction of Pterocarpus marsupium wood extract has been employed in the green synthesis of gold nanoparticles as a reducing agent and stabiliser. The present research aim was to appraise the osteogenic and bactericidal nature of gold nanoparticles (GNPs)prepared by green methods. 
 Materials and Methods: The titanium discs were functionalized with gold nanoparticles at a concentration of 5ppm and 10 ppm  and were considered for its potency against the MG63 bone cell line.  The antimicrobial nature of gold nanoparticles was assessed along the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus (S aureus) and bacterium Escherichia (Ecoli) by the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). MTT assay assessed cell growth and differentiation and mineralization were evaluated by using an alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, acridine orange staining and von kosa staining.
The results: Gold modified titanium disc was antimicrobial against S aureus (MIC:0.03135 mg/cubic centimetre), E coli (MIC: 0.02915 mg/cubic centimetre) and showed the highest value for the MTT assay and ALP activity at a concentration of 5ppm 0.24 +/- 0.007 (P< 0.001). However, there were significant changes in viability/proliferation of gold nanoparticles coated titanium disc at a concentration of 5ppm and 10 ppm. Gold nanoparticle coated titanium disc surfaces at a concentration of 10 ppm (0.20 +/- 0.016) showed decreased cell attachment and growth compared with 5ppm.
Conclusion: It has been observed that titanium disc surface treated with gold nanoparticles at the concentration of 5ppm showed antimicrobial and osteogenic, with significant proliferation and differentiation of MG63 cell line.
