Sustainable Plastic JV InvenTeams, an activity based curriculum co-created by Beyond Benign and the Lemelson-MIT Program, cultivates inventive thinking through the application of green chemistry principles. Students develop an understanding of how chemistry can be used for solving real-world sustainability challenges through the invention of greener, more sustainable products. The guide is designed to provide young people with an experience to investigate the problems associated with fossil-fuel based plastics, consider the life-cycle of products, and invent their own bioplastic solutions.<br/><br/>In this workshop, participants will learn how the multi-week experience impacted students’ confidence, knowledge, and understanding of invention and green chemistry from both formal and informal middle school and high school settings in Michigan, New Hampshire, Oregon, and Texas. Open access guides and resources will be shared.
