A series of newly discovered transition metal and lanthanide mixed metal organic frameworks (MOFs) were synthesized. Several organic linkers were used to create these mixed metal MOFs. These linkers include terephthalic acid, isonicotinic acid (INA), 2,2’-bipryidine-4,4’-dicarboxcylic acid (bpdc) and 2-(4-pyridyl)-1,3-thiazole-4-carboxylic acid (pytac). Two paramagnetic isostructural mixed metal MOFs with either Cu and Gd, or Cu and Ho were synthesized with terephthalic acid. Pytac, a linker rarely used for MOF synthesis, was reacted with a series of transition metal ions and lanthanide ions. This resulted in the formation of a new homometallic 2-D coordination polymer with copper. The organic linker bpdc was reacted with either silver and gadolinium or silver and holmium, using the multifunctional groups present, to create mixed metal MOFs. Using a previously discovered precursor, Ag(INA)2, the addition of different lanthanides and transition metals along with different organic linkers will be used to form new mixed metal MOFs. The magnetic properties, surface area and luminescence of the resulting MOFs will be analyzed in order to determine their potential applications as sensors, single molecular magnets, gas capture, and gas separation.  <br/>
