Biosynthetic® Technologies (BT) has developed, patented, and manufactures a new class of compounds called Estolides. BT manufactures Estolides as a revolutionary new class of bio-based synthetic compounds to meet the global sustainability challenge. These are naturally derived oils that improve the quality of formulated products and are biodegradable and non-toxic. Estolides are a class of unique bio-based oils with a variety of uses. Their oligomeric structure contains fatty acid repeat units, with secondary ester linkages on the alkyl backbone. Within this abstract, research and development and process chemisty scale-up efforts will illustrate the wide applicability, versatility and flexibility of estolide chemistry. BT’s estolide products have exceptional oxidative and hydrolytic stability compared to conventional esters, low cold temperature properties ranging from -50 to -18°C, and viscosities ranging from 4 cSt to 75 cSt at 100°C. Through extensive process development and marketing, Biosynthetic Technologies has developed several new bio-based, biodegradable, and high performance Estolide based lubricant products that have use in different industries and market applications including industrial, food grade, marine sector, PCMO, personal care, pharmaceutical, and tires. Our initial lubricant product line includes BT4, BT22, BT75 and for personal care is BioEstolides. Our products increase sustainability and improve the environment in many different industries. Over the past year, Biosynthetic Technologies has acquired product certifications that meet specifications and requirements defined by national and international regulatory firms and customers.
