A surface response methodology (SRM) approach was used to test 7 variables in banana peel hydrolysis process. 53 hydrolysates were obtained, and hydrolysates based upon SRM prediction models showed as promising for having high sugar concentration and yield. The hydrolysates were successfully fermented and ethanol was extracted in the lab. Further assays such as HPLC and HPTLC are to be performed as well as analysis of the costs of the processes to pick the best candidate for biofuel production.
