Generally, isolable compounds of early to mid-transition metals containing metal-ligand multiple bonds have been reported whereas late metal complexes can be difficult to access and stabilize because of “oxo wall” considerations. Group 9 metal-ligand multiple bonds can be stabilized using bimetallic systems (M=E=M), a strategy that allowed us to isolate the first example of a cobalt nitride complex.
