The study of iron nitroxyl heme complexes remains an interesting research topic for bioinorganic chemists, since such complexes have been proposed as reactive intermediates in some enzymatic mechanisms of the nitrogen cycle. Moreover, the formation of other heme-enzymatic complexes might also be responsible for nitroxyl's known physiological effects on the cardiovascular system. In this work, the stability and reactivity of biomimetic nitroxyl complexes based on the water-soluble porphyrin TPPS is explored.
