Terpenes are the most abundant class of natural product that exist in nature. These metabolites have a myriad of applications including pharmaceutical (Taxol and Artemisinin), perfumery and flavours (Valencene, Menthol and Linalool), bulk chemicals (Isoprene) and fuel (Farnesene).
Interestingly, only in recent years bacteria were found to be a terpene producer, the vast majority of characterized terpenoids have been isolated from plants and fungi.
Continuous advances in gene sequencing technologies and bioinformatics aids the bioprospection for novel secondary metabolites, including terpenes with unprecedent applications.
In the search for bacterial terpenes, genome mining is a powerful ally that can guide and shed a light in the biosynthesis of terpene molecules. 
In this poster is briefly shown how  genome mining can point a direction in the discovery and identification of terpene molecules produced by the strain Streptomyces sp. CBMAI 2042.
