We produce Red mud dopped Nb2O5 thin films, obtained by plasma-assisted electrolyte
oxidation (PEO). In this study we explore some opportunities like:electrolyte
investigation, influence of processing conditions and photocatalytic properties. The niobium substrates were anodized in an acid medium (C2H2O4) using a system consisting of a direct current source in galvanostatic regime and electrolyte temperature control by external recirculation bath. The samples were characterized using techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and x-ray diffraction (XRD). The photocatalytic properties were investigated by photodegradation tests of Methylene Blue (MB), in aqueous solution. The addition of the red mud  to the electrolyte caused a change in the oxide coating produced, which showed more intense luminescence during treatment with PEO and it was identified photocatalytic properties in coatings with the best result in the sample with highest % of red mud.
