To control the total amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the production of CO2 emissions can be limited, and generated CO2 can be stored in the wellbore system underground. However, after a long-term installation of a wellbore system, the gas stored underground has a potential to leak because of degradation of the thin and fragile cement annulus, corrosion of steel casing, etc. 
The application of nanoparticle injection technology is provided here for repairing the cracks generated on the cement inside a horizontally full-scale wellbore system. The electro-migration method is used in this study to inject different types of nanoparticles with external current apply to improve cement density and deter leakage.
In order to connect the lab testing system to the field work, the pressure vessel is designed and build to provide a realistic underground environment with high pressure and high temperature. A series of following tests are conducted by using the pressure vessel with controlled testing environments. Consistent results show that all types of nanoparticles can be successfully driven into the cement anulus within the wellbore system.
