New alkyl-substituted poly(phenylene vinylene) (PPV) derivatives were synthesized via Horner-Emmons coupling. The structures of the monomers and the resultant polymers were confirmed by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopies.  The molecular weights of the polymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), giving number-average and weight-average molecular weights and the corresponding polydispersity indices (PDIs). Measurements of UV-vis absorption and fluorescence were used to characterize the optical properties of the polymers, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was used to evaluate their thermal stability.  Estimation of HOMO and LUMO energy levels and other electrochemical characteristics of the polymers were investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV).Keywords:  Organic light-emitting diodes, Alkyl-substituted conjugated polymers, Horner-Emmons coupling
