The chemistry of Re(CO)3L compounds are of interest because of potential applications for the developments of radiopharmaceuticals of the form M(CO)3L, M = 99mTc, 186/188Re).  The rhenium chemistry is facilitated by the ready availability of [Re(CO)3(H2O)3]Br, which is prepared from refluxing, aqueous Re(CO)5Br. Previously, we have examined the simple syntheses, often in aqueous solution, of simple Re(CO)3L compounds using simple monodentate ligands, dithiocarbamates, dioxime and Schiff base derived a-diimine ligands.  We will present new results of reactions of several aliphatic diamines with d6 rhenium reagents.  As expected, Re(CO)3(N-N)X compounds were obtained.  However in several cases, insertion products were observed with a carbon monoxide ligand inserting into the Re-N bond creating a bidentate ligand with a carboxamido and amine functionality attached to Re(CO)4.  Several compounds have been elucidated by X-ray crystallography and characterized by spectroscopic and other methods.  Details about the means of formation of the insertion products will be presented.
