The rapidly evolving and interdisciplinary nature of climate change causes, consequences, and solutions presents a challenge to instructors. To address this challenge, the National Council for Science and the Environment (NCSE) is creating a nationwide cyber-enabled learning community called CAMEL (Climate, Adaptation, and Mitigation e-Learning). CAMEL will engage experts in science, policy and decision-making, education, and assessment in the production of a virtual toolbox of curricular resources designed for teaching climate change causes, consequences, and solutions. Key factors will be the combination of content with appropriate pedagogical instructional methods and an emphasis on solutions to climate change. The aim is to prepare the next generation of professionals and citizens to deal with these problems through mitigation and adaption strategies. The project has recently been funded by NASA and NSF through their climate change education grant programs.
