The National Science Foundation is committed to sustainability in both its everyday functions and practices and in the support of educational programs or curriculum innovations with a focus toward sustainability.  During the past decade the NSF has implemented operational changes intended to reduce consumption and the waste stream associated with daily activities at the Foundation. Because educational and industrial communities must recognize the importance of sustainability the NSF has supported projects proposing to educate students about sustainability and some of these awards will be highlighted.  Further, potential areas for future funding related to sustainability in chemistry courses or curriculum revisions will be discussed.
