Our group has been interested in the chemistry of Cp'Ru(PTA)2H and Cp'Ru(PTA)(PPh3)H complexes where Cp' = Cp*, Dp, Ind, Cp, Tp. Our group have previously shown that CpRu(PTA)2H undergoes H/D exchange with D2O and CD3OD. We have completed the synthesis of the series of Cp'Ru(PTA)(PR3)H complexes (where PR3 = PTA or PPh3). IndRu(PTA)2H is obtained by conversion of the mixed-phosphine ruthenium complex IndRu(PTA)(PPh3)Cl into IndRu(PTA)(PPh3)H followed by the addition of two equivalents of 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (PTA). The formation of IndRu(PTA)2H was monitored by 1H NMR spectroscopy and showed the disappearance of an apparent quartet (dd) at -16.3 ppm and the appearance of a triplet hydride signal at -17.5 ppm. The rates of H/D exchange reactions for the series of Cp'Ru(PTA)2H complexes in D2O and CD3OD were studied and monitored by 1H and 31P NMR spectroscopy and will be discussed.
