A facile and low-cost approach is reported to fabricate high-crystalline TiO2 thin films with an intriguing porous morphology via a polymer templating metho. Two synthesized TiO2 thin film are reported. First, a nanospider TiO2 templated by polyethylene glycol displayed over double photoelectrochemical performance for water splitting over the standard P25 photocatalyst. Photocatalysis for the degradation of toxic organics also outperformed P25.Second, poly(methyl methacrylate) templated TiO2 thin films show a double-layer feature containing a nanodisk morphology.  Application of this photoanode in solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells has reached light-to-electricity conversion efficiency of over 4% without the need for a liquid electrolyte.
