We report a cationic metal-organic framework with two mixed organic linkers directing the structure.  The silver based structure consists of 1-D Ag(4,4'-bipy) cationic chains arranged into close-packed layers.  Weakly bound alkanedisulfonate anions charge-balance the layers, where only one oxygen of each sulfonate makes only a long contact with the Ag.(silver:pink, carbon:grey, sulfur:yellow, nitrogen: blue, oxygen: red)           The alkanedisulfonate anions are able to be reversibly exchanged by various anions, including nitrate, perchlorate, and dichromate. The unsaturated linear Ag centers likely allow the strong Lewis acidity displayed by the material for ketalization and esterification with highly efficient and reusable conversion yields (> 95 %). Several other copper and cadmium based cationic materials are also investigated and discussed.
