Previously, our lab has reported use of the bis(8-quinolyl)methylsilyl (NSiN) ligand and its coordination chemistry with rhodium, iridium and platinum. This rigid tridentate silyl ligand prefers facial coordination to transition metals and stabilizes a series of Pt(IV) alkyl and hydrido derivatives. We now describe in this presentation our attempts to install this NSiN ligand onto nickel, which led to isolation of several structurally unique nickel complexes including a silylnickel cluster with an unusual [Ni3Si2] core, a Ni(I) ?2-arene complex, and a Ni(III) trichloride.
