Low temperature high moisture content waste heat streams are widely available from many industrial processes, and typically categorized as low grade waste heat, because they are difficult to be recovered economically due to its low temperature, and equipment corrosion problems with the dew point condensation. A nanoporous membrane based waste heat and water recovery technology, was developed for this category waste heat stream, which not only recovers the significant amount of latent heat from the moisture, but also the moisture itself as liquid form water. The recovered water is of high quality and mineral free, therefore can be used as supplemental makeup water for almost all industrial processes. This technology was investigated and applied for natural gas boiler flue gas, and is under investigation for other high moisture content waste heat streams, including coal-fired power plant flue gas, and exhausts from drying, refinery, alumina making and biomass production processes.
