Some samples of poly(vinylchloride) of different stereochemical microstructure were prepared by stereoselective substitution reaction with sodium benzenethiolate at various conversions. A full characterization of the samples was made by 13C-NMR spectroscopy so as to determine the content of the most important nanometric structures especially the mmr termini of isotactic sequences. This stereomicrostructure involves the occurrence of local discontinuities along the polymer chain, which, in addition, are able to exhibit conformations, all nanometric in size, of higher potential energy with excess free volume and local motion facilities, thereby influencing strongly the inter-intrachain interactions. The so understood nanostructure allow us to shed light on the mechanisms of the physical processes involved in the PVC behaviour after submitting it to thermal (physical ageing by DSC calorimetry), mechanical (b-relaxation by DMTA analyzer) and electrical stress (a, b and r by thermal step method-TSM, TSDC and DRS spectroscopy), contributing to some progress in the nanostructured materials.
