Chemistry, Life, theUniverse and Everything (CLUE) is a new general chemistry curriculum developedon the basis of prior and ongoing research into the fundamental conceptsstudents need to learn, and effective ways to develop scientific processskills. The materials under development are a book, a student website and aninstructor website. The book is intended as the driver for interest in thesubject, it is written in an engaging style with a narrative theme that extendsthroughout the book � namely how we can move from an understanding of atomicstructure to an understanding of complex biological systems. The accompanyingwebsite incorporates both instructors and student sites and is tightlyintegrated with the text. The development of conceptual understanding, problemsolving and metacognitive skillfulness are focal points of our ongoingsupporting research for this project
