A novel classes of difunctional benzoxazine monomers were synthesized from the reaction of 4,4'-(1-Phenylethylidene) biphenol (bisphenol AP) with formaldehyde and amines including aniline and o-toluidine. Their chemical structures were identified by FTIR and 1H NMR analyses. The curing behaviors of the monomers were monitored by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The thermal stability of cured benzoxazines was measured by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The bisphenol AP-based polybenzoxazines show the typical curing characteristic of oxazine ring-opening for difunctional benzoxazines centred at 226-237 �C and better thermal stability than traditional bisphenol A-based polybenzoxazines due to the high aromatic content. The thermal decomposition temperature and char yield of polybenzoxazines, which are 346.3-347.5 �C and 43.2-48.5% for T5 and Yc, respectively, are much higher than those of bisphenol A-based polybenzoxazines.
