A highly efficient and selective (=98%) hydrozirconation�Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling protocol for the synthesis of conjugated oligoenes with proximal asymmetric carbon centers has been developed. Its synthetic usefulness has been demonstrated by the synthesis of the C21-C37 fragment of amphotericin B (=98% isomeric purity) in 8 steps in the longest linear sequence from ethyl (S)-3-hydroxybutyrate, cis-2-butene, propiolic acid and propargyl alcohol.
