A water-soluble, self-assembled, tetrahedral assembly K12Ga4L6 (L = 1,5-biscatecholamide naphthalene) catalyzes the Nazarov Cyclization of 1,3-pentadienols with extremely high levels of efficiency.  The assembly-catalyzed reaction is conducted in basic aqueous solution, even though the reaction ordinarily requires an acid catalyst.  The rate of the catalyzed reaction is accelerated by a factor of 106 over the uncatalyzed reaction rate, and catalyst loadings below 1% can be used.
