Single wall carbonnanotubes (SWNTs) are coated with polyvinylpyrrolidone-iodine (PVPI) in water.This solution of SWNT and PVPI is deposited as a composite film, composed ofindividual and bundled SWNTs with an antiseptic PVPI coating. This materialacts as a conductive nano-textured bandage with high flexibility and selfcontained slow-release antiseptic iodine. Antibacterial properties were tested andconfirmed with Escherichia coli, showing high efficacy over 48 h. Four-proberesistance tests showed a sheet resistance of approximately 10 kO/square, whichis sufficiently conductive for the purposes of electrical pulsing. Thismaterial shows promise for wound healing applications where regeneration of nervoustissue connections is desired, as it will act to prevent infection, allowoxygen to the wound site through micron sized pores, provide a nano-texturedsubstrate material for nervous and tissue growth, and stimulate reconnection ofnerve cells by electrical pulsing.
