Oral delivery of peptides such as erythropoietin and insulin has been successfully achieved by conjugation of these peptides to vitamin B12 (B12), thereby utilizing the dietary uptake pathway for the vitamin.  Haptocorrin (HC) and intrinsic factor (IF) are glycoproteins that carry and protect B12 during gastrointestinal passage.  Although these proteins serve a critical function in the B12 uptake pathway, up until now, their use as delivery agents has not directly been explored.  Herein, we describe the overexpression and utilization of HC and IF in oral delivery.
