The design and synthesis of novelsupramolecular donor-porphyrin-acceptor systems with appropriate energy-level alignedredox active units is presented. Ground- and excited-state electroniccommunication between the porphyrin and electron donor/acceptor of thesupramolecular systems is investigated. Through intuitive molecular design and engineering, electron-donatingmoieties are incorporated into a supramolecular porphyrin structure increasingcharge separation following photoinduced electron transfer. The ground and excitedstate electronic properties of the dyes in the condensed phase will be presentedfollowing analysis by photophysical and electrochemical methods. The photoelectrochemicalproperties are also investigated at the molecule-semiconductor interface.
