We present data from a new experimental setup combining REMPI surface-scattering techniques with velocity-map imaging, yielding both translational and quantum-state distributions of scattered molecular flux.  When scattering HCl molecules from a variety of surfaces, both thermal-desorption and impulsive-scattering components are identified.  The impulsively-scattered flux is easily isolated in the velocity map, affording a direct measure of the quantum-state populations of these molecules.  This method is applied to both simple deposited-gold surfaces as well as self-assembledmonolayers (SAMs).  Functionalizing the SAM surfaces opens the possibility of probing both non-reactive and reactive scattering trajectories, such as HCl?DCl proton exchange reactions on an -OD terminated SAM.  Future experimental directions will be discussed, including investigations of liquid interfaces and other dynamic surfaces.
