Organofluorine derivatives have become increasingly important as pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and materials. Our ability to introduce fluorine into organic compounds currently limits the discovery and synthesis of these targets. This lecture will describe the development of enantioselective transition metal catalyzed methods for the synthesis of �-fluoroalcohols and allylic fluorides using nucleophilic fluoride sources. These reactions are characterized by remarkably mild conditions, atypical of most nucleophilic fluorination reactions. Mechanistic studies directed at gaining a general understanding of the catalytic reactivity will be presented.
