A palladium catalyzed intramolecular formal [3+2] cycloaddition of 1,7-enynes was accomplished. The reaction undergoes through chloro-palladation on propiolic acid and gives vicinal difunctionalization of unactivated olefins. This reaction gives 6,7,5-tricyclic ring systems in a single operation with formation of 5-membered lactone.
