Octahedral hexanuclear transition metal cluster cores can influence the reactivity of coordinated terminal ligands in ways profoundly different from single transition metal cations.  Specifically, we have observed novel small molecule transformations at [Re6Se8]2+ cores, resulting in the formation of tetrazolate, carboxamide or triazolate functional groups, all bonded to [Re6Se8]2+ cores.  The synthesis, characterization, and possible mechanisms associated with these small molecule activations will be discussed.
