The synthesis and modification of ITO electrodes with polymer brushes and nanocomposite thin films will be discussed.  The preparation of ferrocene functional polymer brushes via surface initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) on ITO will be discussed, as model system for the development of polyacrylonitrile brush films. We will also discuss our recent efforts in the electropolymerization of thiophene and thiophene decoraated  cadmium selenide (CdSe) nanoparticles.  Morphological and electrochemical characterization of both electro- and photoactive thin films will be discussed using field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), x-ray diffraction (XRD) and cyclic volatmmetry (CV).
