The development of ionicliquid based materials has generated considerable interest due to theirpotential applications in a wide range of areas, including batteries, fuelcells, gas absorption membranes, and actuators. The synthesis of novel fluorinated polymer based ionic liquid blockstructures is described. The synthetic strategy involves a new approach to telechelicP(VDF-HFP) as a macro-initiator followed by reversible addition�fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerizationof imidazolium monomers. The chemical structure of the polymers has been extensivelycharacterized. It is expected the self-assembled microstructures of the blockcopolymers would lead to tunable ionic conductivity for a systematicstructure-property study.
