The nature of color fascinates everyone, yet most people have not observed or experienced - much less understood - many of the phenomena relating to color.   Hundreds of books, lectures, and articles have been presented on this subject but a fresh new series would be of value to facilitate understanding and develop hands-on experiments for middle school through college chemistry courses that more rapidly enhance conceptual comprehension.  This first presentation involves experiments with Kool-Aid, colored filters and botanical samples to illustrate the subject of color subtraction.  The colors red and green seem to be superficially understood by many, but what about the colors yellow and blue, and the myriad of other tints differentiated by the human eye? And how many pigments are in botanical samples?
