When it comes to school safety and student health, students deserve the best protection possible. Elementary and secondary school science labs, trade shops, janitorial areas, and many other places in schools may store chemicals that are harmful to students and school personnel if they are not responsibly managed. Besides useful educational and cleaning chemicals, schools may store toxic or combustible chemicals, like mercury and gunpowder that can pose serious health risks. Since schools are often the center of communities or neighborhoods, the problem affects us all. As ACS members, you are in a position to help prevent these chemical accidents in your community schools before they occur by participating in the schools chemical cleanout campaign.
