Bacterial biofilm formation on Ti implant surfaces is a frequent reason for the implants failure due to the incredible resistance of the biofilm to antibiotic treatments. Careful design of the implant surface can decrease or even prevent the bacterial infection.  This study examined bacterial colonization and biofilm formation on human serum albumin (HSA) coated Ti orthopedic devices. S. Aaureus was used for bacterial adhesion study in vitro.  Bacteria attachment to the untreated Ti surface and HSA plastic coated Ti surface were compared. Atomic force microscopy (AFM), ellipsometry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to analyze and characterize the HSA coating.  It has been found that the HSA plastic coating decreased bacterial adhesion to the implant surface.
