At least three broad positive effects of forensic science on undergraduate chemistry students can be easily delineated. It has always provided rewarding and stable employment for a small number of chemistry graduates; the recent very positive treatment of the field of Forensic Science by the media has provided a positive image of forensic chemists and of scientists in general, in contrast to the frequent rather negative portrayal of scientists by the media; this favorable portrayal has attracted many students to forensic science or chemistry programs significantly swelling the number of science trained graduates. Some students develop a love of science and a desire for graduate education in forensic science and many other science fields. The clear applicability of forensic science has a strong appeal to those in search of a career. Once involved in science they may broaden their career outlook.
