Microwave chemistry has found its place in many research areas, mainly with batch synthesis on the discovery level and in combinatorial chemistry. Recently there has been a push to move reactions to a flow setup, allowing for �hands free� scale up of compounds.Our research team is currently advancing new technologies using superheating substrates and applying them to a microwave flow system. These substrates reach temperatures much greater than the bulk temperature, leading to fast, even heating with an end result of producing anywhere from 3 to 40 grams of desired material/hour. This presentation will focus on the continuous flow synthesis of several types of metal catalyzed coupling, rearrangement, and substitution reactions that are typically used in organic chemistry. The advantages and limitations of this type of system will also be explored.
