The talk will focus on our recent work in developing new materials for applications in both production and storage of hydrogen gas. As photocatalytic materials for hydrogen generation from water with solar energy, several types of porous materials with high surface area have been studied. New forms of band-engineered partially reduced crystalline TiO2 have also been synthesized and shown to be highly stable and undergo efficient visible-light photocatalysts for the reduction of water into hydrogen gas. For metal-organic framework materials, several strategies have been developed for the preparation of new families of ultra-lightweight porous metal-organic framework materials with potential sorption-based applications.
