Trans-chelating bidentate phosphines are less well developed compared to cis-chelating counterparts. We report  the synthesis and characterization of a Rh dihydride complex with a trans-diphosphine ligand. The solid structure shows that it adopts a pseudo-octahedral geometry, with cis- coordinating dihydride ligand and two weak interactions with the tetrafluoroborate counteranion. The reactivity profile of this rhodium dihydrido complex is currently under investigation.
