GreenFire Energy is pioneering the use of CO2 for electricpower generation, grid-scale energy storage, and energy management.  Called CO2E�, GreenFire'stechnologies combine CO2 with geothermal resources to generaterenewable, baseload power from pressure and heat, while creating more efficientuse of the power grid.  GreenFire'sinitial source of CO2 for technology development is an inexpensive,natural resource, yet financing the development of this potentially beneficialtechnology has proved challenging.  Forthis discussion, GreenFire Energy will present its technology, the naturalresource components, and the financing needs and challenges. CO2E� captures heat and pressure by circulating eithernatural or anthropogenic CO2 through hot geologic formations, thenreturning it to the surface for power generation.  The technology can be used to generatebaseload power or to store energy to meet peak demand requirements.  When used for energy storage, its projectedresponse time to peak energy output is less than two minutes, which is farbetter than competing technologies.  Thisis an extraordinarily flexible combination that, in effect, constitutes energysupply �on demand� for the grid.  Noother technology provides this range of capabilities.  More importantly, the projected CO2E�cost of production is the lowest of any scalable technology. CO2E� is attractive because it makes geothermal powerproduction and energy storage commercially viable over vast portions of theearth at costs lower than for existing technologies.  If the technical issues are surmounted, CO2E�will become the low-cost, high-volume supplier in the enormous electrical powermarket. CO2E� has the potential to decrease the cost of geothermalpower and greatly increase its output. This can revolutionize the entire electrical power market because it ismodeled to have a lower production cost, can be used in many more locations,and generates power from both pressure and heat.
