In this presentation, described will be recent studies in our laboratories that have been focused on the development of new methods for the formation of carbon-heteroatom and carbon-carbon bonds under the catalysis of transition metal complexes. The otherwise unavailable catalytic reactivity emanating from novel transition metal chemistry has been applied to address some of the challenging issues in the synthesis of complex natural products. Examples will be given on how the new reaction processes can lead to the formulation of efficient strategies for the total synthesis of stereochemically and architecturally complex structures of various origin.
