The underlying principleguiding our research is that the most effective bio-oil stabilization isaccomplished by refining before condensation of the pyrolysis vapors, sincedegradation by further reaction (oligomerization) occurs in the liquid phaseand accelerates when liquid bio-oil is subsequently heated for fractionation orother processing.  The process thatwe term �catalytic cascade� incorporates a series of chemical condensationreactions (aldol, ketonization, alkylation) which form the C-C bonds and extendthe carbon backbone to the desired gasoline/diesel range before deoxygenation /hydrogenation.
