Donor-acceptor cyclopropanes and/or cyclobutanes, when treated with 1,2 dipolarophiles under Lewis Acid catalysis, undergo formal cycloaddition reactions providing a variety of heterocycles very efficiently. Due to the divergent nature, selectivity and cost effectiveness, the new methods hold great promise in the arena of heterocyclic and natural products syntheses.
