Application of water as an environmentally benign and economically favourable alternative to organic solvents has developed into a highly active field of research. Several organometalliccatalysts were successfully applied in water; regarding functional group tolerance and scope of application the Suzuki coupling is a powerful tool to selectively generate biaryls. We present a new palladacyclic catalyst yielding high activities in aqueous Suzuki coupling at room temperature. An efficient, broadly applicable and sustainable protocol was developed,allowing to perform the reaction in neat water, under air with Pd loadings of 0.04 mol-%.
