Carbon nanotube (CNT) hybrid materials composed of inorganic oxides and 3D vertically arranged CNTs offer unique material properties in catalysis and sensing. Due to the spatially arranged and thus accessible CNT surface they offer ideal high surface area support structures on which a variety of chemically active oxides can be tethered. We are presenting our work towards synthesis, characterization and functional properties of multiwalled CNT/metal oxide hybrids (ZnO, TiO2, Cu2O). These hybrid materials show unique properties in gas sensing as well in selective oxidation and hydrogenation catalysis reactions .
