Homopropargylic alcohols bearingpropargyl leaving groups undergo alkyne activation processes to test theirability to form metal carbene intermediates. Multiple leaving groups and reactionconditions are evaluated, aimed at enhancing the reactivity of the eventprocess. Under the optimized conditions, a cascade cycloisomerization wasobserved leading to furan products. We propose the involvement of a uniquecarbene intermediate during the cascade. A detailed mechanistic analysis, and syntheticapplications will be presented.
