A series of 2,6-disubstituted N,N'-bis(para-ethynylbenzene)anthraquinone diimine ligands (Anthra) were synthesized and characterized by X-ray structure determination, spectroscopic and electrochemical methods, with the substituents, X, being Br, H, NH2. These substituents allow to change in electronic properties of the anthraquinone diimine from poor to rich (from Br to NH2) to the point where the anthraquinone dimine center resembles an 9,10-diaminoanthracene aromatic. Conjugated model compounds and polymers with the formula Cl-PtL2-CC-C6H4-AnthraX2-C6H4-CC-PtL2Cl and (PtL2-CC-C6H4-AnthraX2-C6H4-CC)n (L = PBu3, Figure 1) were prepared and investigated by spectroscopic (UV-vis, emission, photophysical, DFT, TDDFT) and electrochemical methods. Gr�tzel-type liquid cell were also contructed and tested.
